Armenian revanchist cleric, ex-president plot tactics against PM Pashinyan
The meeting between Bagrat Galstanyan, the leader of the revanchist movement “Tavush (Tovuzgala) for the Motherland" and the third Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan took place in the latter's mansion in Dzoraghbyur on June 4.
"Bagrat Galstanyan spoke about what he imagines the further tactics of the movement to be, in particular that he has always been in favour of impeaching the prime minister in parliament, but is now on the path of building up the pressure of the street," Hraparak daily writes.
Sargsyan said that the Republican Party, which he leads, supported the movement even before it reached Yerevan: separate groups of Republicans travelled periodically to Kirants (Gyuney).
According to Hraparak, the ex-president also said he has no intention to claim a place in the future state administration system: "the main thing is to get rid of Pashinyan's power".
Earlier, Bagrat Galstanyan said that he met with the first Armenian President Levon Ter-Petrosyan 15 days before the events (border delimitation) in Kirants (Guney).
The protests in Armenia began after it became known about the agreement reached between Yerevan and Baku on 19 April to start delimitation of the border with Tavush (Tovuzgala). On 9 May, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, who led the procession of revanchists from Tavush (Tovuzgala) to Yerevan, called on the Prime Minister to resign.
