Australia urges citizens to leave Iran immediately as exits narrow
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs has warned Australians to depart Iran, citing that ongoing protests could make it "impossible to leave later."
According to the updated guidance, commercial options to depart were still available but becoming more limited, and airspace closures and flight cancellations could happen soon, potentially making it impossible to leave later, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
“If you remain in Iran against our advice, you’re responsible for your own safety. Be prepared to shelter in place for an extended period. Make sure you have supplies of water, food and medication,” it added.
Several other countries have issued similar warnings amid the unrest in Iran.
India advised its citizens and people of Indian origin to avoid non‑essential travel to Iran and remain cautious while in the country.
Pakistan and Argentina also urged caution, with Pakistan advising nationals to limit travel and stay in contact with diplomatic missions, while Argentina recommended avoiding travel due to heightened social tensions.
Additionally, the UK, US, and Canada all warned their citizens to avoid travel and consider leaving Iran amid the deteriorating security situation.
