Austrian general: Ukraine could hold Bakhmut for days, weeks to come

The Austrian Armed Forces major general Bruno Hofbauer has said that Ukraine is likely to hold the Bakhmut region for the next few days and weeks.

He made the remarks on the air of the German TV channel “ntv”.

Hofbauer ruled out a large-scale Russian offensive in the region even if the Ukrainians do withdraw from the town.

"If Bakhmut falls, I assume that, as in the past few months, we will probably not have Russian troops deep inside that have sufficient training, equipment and forces to carry out a full-scale offensive here," the general added.
