Axios: Trump approved Iran strike plan at NATO summit
U.S. President Donald Trump has approved a plan for strikes on Iran and ordered its implementation while attending the NATO summit in Türkiye, Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reported, citing a U.S. official.
Before that, Trump held consultations in Ankara with Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine.
According to the official, it remains unclear how long the strikes will last. “We will get an assessment of the results of the strikes and make decisions after,” he said.
Axios had previously reported that U.S. military strikes on Iran overnight into Wednesday would be four to five times larger in scale than those carried out 10 days earlier against targets in the Strait of Hormuz area.
Meanwhile, The Associated Press, citing U.S. officials, reported that the strikes would last several hours and would target various military facilities and port infrastructure in the Strait of Hormuz region.
According to those officials, the operation is aimed at Iranian air defence systems, coastal surveillance systems, anti-aircraft missiles, as well as launchers for anti-ship cruise missiles and drones.
