Axios: Türkiye found no evidence of plot to assassinate Trump in Ankara
Turkish intelligence services found no evidence that an assassination attempt against US President Donald Trump was being prepared during his visit to Ankara for the NATO summit on July 7-8, Axios reports, citing sources.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal and several Israeli media outlets reported that Israeli intelligence had warned the United States of an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate Trump in Ankara.
According to Axios, Turkish intelligence agencies were also informed of the alleged threat in the Turkish capital.
After reviewing the information and investigating the circumstances, they concluded that no preparations for an attack on Trump had been underway.
Nevertheless, the report said the Israeli warning prompted US intelligence agencies to implement additional security measures to protect the American president.
In particular, the information was cited as the reason for changing Trump's aircraft before he departed from Türkiye.
The Wall Street Journal later reported, citing sources, that US officials did not consider the intelligence provided by Israel regarding the alleged Iranian threat against Trump to be entirely convincing.
