Azerbaijan aims for leadership in green energy transition, says deputy minister
Azerbaijan, long regarded as a driving force in the traditional energy sector, is now positioning itself at the forefront of the global green energy revolution, Deputy Energy Minister Elnur Soltanov said.
Speaking at a high-level event titled “360-degree Middle Corridor - from geopolitics to digital transformation, and from family to green development,” Soltanov underscored the country's strategic pivot towards sustainable energy, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Highlighting the emerging dynamics of global energy, Soltanov noted that the shift towards decarbonisation and green technologies presents both challenges and unprecedented opportunities for countries like Azerbaijan.
“Today’s event discussed the transition to green energy and decarbonisation. These challenges are actually also an opportunity for our geography. We must mobilise all resources to make the most of these opportunities,” he stated.
Soltanov emphasised the importance of harnessing Azerbaijan’s vast renewable energy potential, particularly in solar and wind, which could not only diversify the national energy mix but also reinforce Azerbaijan’s role as a regional leader in sustainable development.
To recap, the event was held on the sidelines of the second meeting of the Ministers of Family and Social Policies from the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), currently underway in Baku.
Bringing together officials from the member states, the gathering places a strong emphasis on the vital role of women in contemporary society, sustainable development, and the preservation of traditional values.
