Azerbaijan approves appointment of new Iranian ambassador
The Azerbaijani authorities have approved the appointment of Mojtaba Demirchilou as the new ambassador of Iran to Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada, confirmed to local media.
The announcement follows a statement by Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, who revealed the appointment and noted that the administrative procedures have been completed, Caliber.Az reports.
Baghaei emphasised the importance Iran places on its relations with countries in Central Asia and the Caucasus, highlighting Azerbaijan as a particularly significant partner.
He described Demirchilou as one of Iran’s most experienced diplomats specialising in Eurasian affairs.
It is worth recalling that the mandate of the previous Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Seyed Abbas Mousavi, expired in May 2024.
Demirchilou currently holds the position of Director General of the Eurasia Department at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is recognised as an experienced specialist in regional matters. His expertise in Eurasian diplomacy reflects Tehran’s aim to strengthen its ties with Azerbaijan amid shifting geopolitical developments in the South Caucasus.
