TURKPA strengthens parliamentary ties with Kazakhstan chairmanship PHOTO
TURKPA Chairman-in-Office and Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, H.E. Yerlan Koshanov, received the TURKPA delegation led by Secretary General Ambassador Ramil Hasan in Astana on 17 October.
During the meeting, Koshanov congratulated Ambassador Hasan on the commencement of his tenure as Secretary General, highlighting his extensive professional experience and longstanding contributions to Turkic cooperation. He reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to fostering solidarity and deepening collaboration among Turkic states, noting the pivotal role of parliaments in strengthening unity across the Turkic world, Caliber.Az reports, citing TURKPA.
Chairman Koshanov outlined key priorities for TURKPA under Kazakhstan’s Chairmanship, including the enhancement of the Assembly’s legal framework, hosting committee meetings in Astana, and supporting initiatives linked to the centenary of the First Turkological Congress in Azerbaijan.
Secretary General Hasan presented proposals to advance TURKPA’s agenda, including annual informal meetings of speakers of Turkic parliaments, organizing committee sessions on Health, Defence, and Foreign Affairs within Kazakhstan, and establishing new cooperation mechanisms between Ministries of Foreign Affairs and parliaments of member states. He also underscored the importance of fostering closer collaboration between the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and TURKPA, as well as advancing coordinated efforts to promote shared interests on interparliamentary platforms.
Koshanov expressed full support for the Secretary General’s initiatives, describing them as vital for enhancing parliamentary dialogue and regional cooperation.
The two sides also exchanged views on the outcomes of the 12th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States held in Gabala on 7 October, with Koshanov noting that the summit reaffirmed the high level of mutual understanding among Turkic nations and set priorities for regional peace, stability, and prosperity. Secretary General Hasan expressed hope to welcome Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan into TURKPA in the near future.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to constructive cooperation as TURKPA enters a new phase of development.
The Secretary General was accompanied by Deputies Talgat Aduov and Muhammet Alper Hayali, and Secretary of Commission Aynura Abutalibova.
