Azerbaijan building new highway from Fuzuli to Shusha PHOTO/VIDEO

23 June 2022 15:07

Spokesman for the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads Anar Najafli has said that the new Ahmadbayli-Fuzuli-Shusha high-speed highway, one of the road infrastructure projects in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region, is being rapidly built.

“It will play an important role in the social and economic development of the districts liberated from long Armenian occupation during the second Karabakh war in autumn 2020,” Najafli told Caliber.Az.

The highway was laid during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to the Fuzuli district on January 14, 2021.

The high-speed highway stretching 81.6 kilometres is mainly six-lane, three lanes in each direction (the total width of the highway is from 37.7 metres to 29.5 metres), and it will be four-lane only in the high-mountainous area (total width - 21.5 metres).

Seven tunnels (total length – 6,358 metres), nine viaducts (total length 1,980 metres) and 30 underground passages are being laid along the highway.

The Special Purpose Road Operations No. 16 LLC of the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads and AzVirt LLC as a subcontractor are involved in the construction.

Construction work is carried out under the direct control of the leadership of the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads. The highway starts from the M6 Hajigabul-Horadiz-Agband-Zangazur corridor highway and runs through Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli, Khojavand, Khojaly and Shusha districts liberated from occupation.

The construction of the highway is planned to be completed in 2023.
