Azerbaijan discusses building up trade opportunities with Uzbekistan
A delegation led by Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov inspected the opportunities of the Baku port for expansion of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan and increase trade prospects via the Middle Corridor.

According to the information, the delegation, which also included leaders of the transport, energy, investment and trade sectors, got acquainted with the technical capabilities of the Baku port, the volume of cargo handling and the principle of operation of the terminals. During the visit, the guests were informed about infrastructure projects in the Baku port.
From 2018 to the II quarter of 2023, 18,000 TEU, 22,000 wagons and more than 23,000 wheeled vehicles were transported between the Baku port and Uzbekistan in both directions.
Azerbaijan is planning to kick off the construction of the second phase of the Baku Port at the end of this year and the beginning of next year. Under the initial project, with the completion of the second phase of construction, the annual cargo handling in the port will be increased to 25 million tons, including 500,000 TEU containers.
The second phase also envisions the construction of an intermodal and multimodal terminal as well as a trailer truck park in the second phase. Over 20% of cargo that was transported by more than 120,000 semi-trucks from Türkiye was carried through Azerbaijan.
