Bayraktar LLC to launch UAV production in Sumgayit

13 May 2025 12:45

Bayraktar Teknoloji Azerbaijan LLC has been granted resident status at the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park, becoming the park’s 39th official resident.

The company will implement the "Production of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles" project on the territory of the industrial park, Caliber.Az reports citing local media

The development follows a memorandum of intent signed in 2023 between the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry and Turkish defence company Baykar, outlining plans for joint UAV production in Azerbaijan.

The collaboration underscores growing defence and technological ties between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, particularly in advanced military technology and drone manufacturing.

Established by a presidential decree in 2011, the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park is managed by the Economic Zones Development Agency of Azerbaijan. It is the first of its kind in Azerbaijan and the largest in the South Caucasus. The park spans 613 hectares and focuses on competitive production in the petrochemical and other priority industries.

Investments in the park have reached nearly 6 billion manats ($3.52 billion). Since inception, the park's residents have generated approximately 14 billion manats ($8.23 billion) in product sales, with 5 billion manats ($2.94 billion) exported. In the first quarter of 2025, production increased by 14.2 per cent and exports by 17.2 per cent compared to the same period last year. The park employs more than 6,000 people and exports to over 70 countries.
