Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sarvan Jafarov has said that Azerbaijan supports all initiatives aimed at expanding trade and economic cooperation with Latvia.

Jafarov made these remarks during a meeting in Baku with a Latvian delegation led by Minister for Agriculture Armands Krauze, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The Azerbaijani deputy minister introduced the guests to the main pillars of Azerbaijan’s agricultural strategy, the state support mechanisms for the sector, and ongoing innovative projects. Highlighting the country's favourable investment climate and extensive transit potential, he noted that Latvian agricultural companies could benefit significantly from these opportunities. In turn, Krauze expressed strong interest in deepening ties with Azerbaijan, emphasising the high potential for collaboration in agriculture.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the creation of a joint working group, expansion of the legal framework, exchange of information on export goods, an increase in trade turnover in agricultural and food products, and encouraging Latvian companies’ participation in Azerbaijani agricultural exhibitions. Opportunities for joint research projects and cooperation in agricultural education were also explored.

Additionally, the two parties expressed mutual interest in enhancing bilateral relations and boosting mutual trade volumes in the agricultural sector.

In a separate meeting, Azerbaijan and Latvia also reviewed prospects for cooperation in environmental protection and forestry.

According to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the discussions took place between Azerbaijani First Deputy Minister Rashad Ismayilov and Minister Krauze’s delegation. The sides also touched on plans to hold the next session of the Azerbaijan-Latvia Intergovernmental Commission this fall.
