Azerbaijan expands water infrastructure in Karabakh, East Zangazur—official
Water resources exceeding 2 billion cubic metres, formed in Karabakh and East Zangazur, have already been included in Azerbaijan’s state water balance.
Rafig Aslanov, Head of the State Supervision Service for Water Use and Protection, told journalists that one of the key priorities is the development of modern irrigation systems aimed at improving agricultural efficiency and bringing new arable lands into cultivation, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“Many projects are being implemented in the field of water management in the liberated territories. Construction, as well as repair and restoration work, has already been completed at a number of facilities, while design and construction work is ongoing at others. In order to develop intensive agriculture, it is first necessary to ensure reliable water supply sources,” Aslanov said.
He noted that new water sources are being created for this purpose, while main canals are being constructed based on a closed-system principle.
“This approach will allow water to be delivered to agricultural lands through pressurized closed pipelines and will enable the widespread use of modern intensive irrigation technologies,” he added.
