Azerbaijan foils attempt to smuggle over 18kg of drugs from Iran
The State Border Service has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 18 kg of drugs from Iran into Azerbaijan.
As part of ongoing measures to ensure reliable protection of the state border, the fight against smuggling and illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, 18.3 kg of narcotic drugs (14.7 kg of marijuana and 3.6 kg of opium) were found and seized from a Baku resident, Caliber.Az reports citing the State Border Service press office.
As a result of border search and operational measures, the suspect was detained near Bilasuvar District's Arazbar village on August 26.
A border patrol serving on the territory of the Goytapa border detachment's border outpost noticed suspicious actions of the detainee trying to cross from the Islamic Republic of Iran into Azerbaijan.
Operational and investigative measures into the case are underway.
