28 September 2023 11:59

The Azerbaijani army did not target civilians and facilities during local anti-terrorist activities, these activities were implemented in full compliance with international law, including international humanitarian law.

Chairman of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova stated this at a meeting with Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Irish Parliament Sean O'Fearghale, Report informs.

Broadly informing the opposite side on the current situation in the region, Sahiba Gafarova recalled that Azerbaijan, having liberated its lands from the Armenian occupation, ensured the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions and offered the opposite side a peace treaty, which is still not signed due to the fault of Armenia.

According to the speaker, Armenia has not withdrawn 10 thousand of its servicemen from Garabagh, provided them with material support, arms and ammunition, supported the separatist regime in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan, committed provocations on the border, continued to mine Azerbaijani territories.

"Last week, the number of these provocations increased further. Thus, civilians and servicemen were killed and injured as a result of mines planted by Armenian sabotage groups for terrorist purposes. All this led to the launch of anti-terrorist measures aimed at preventing military provocations and terrorist acts by illegal Armenian armed formations in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan, as well as the withdrawal of terrorist groups from Garabagh," the speaker noted.

Meanwhile, Gafarova, who is in Ireland on a working visit, met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Irish Parliament Sean Offergale.

Welcoming Gafarova, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Irish Parliament expressed satisfaction with the first visit of the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament to Ireland, The Press and Public Relations Department of the Azerbaijani Parliament told APA.

The speaker of the House of Representatives noted that the Irish Parliament was working on establishing a friendship group with the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, and expressed confidence that it would contribute to further strengthening of inter-parliamentary ties.

Gafarova said that an agreement was reached on a complete ceasefire, taking into account the appeal of representatives of the Armenian residents of Garabagh on September 20.

According to this agreement, the units of the Armenian armed forces, illegal Armenian armed formations located in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan should lay down their arms, leave their combat positions and military posts and be completely disarmed. She noted that this process is currently underway.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova left an entry in the memorial book.
