Azerbaijan: Lachin residents meet on their native land "Great Return in action"/VIDEO
Under Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's instruction, another group of former internally displaced persons arrived in their hometown of Lachin from the Qobu Park 3 residential complex located in Baku's Garadagh district as part of the Great Return programme on June 19.
Some 13 families consisting of 44 people have already settled in their homes in Lachin, they have been handed the keys to their apartments.
All the visitors who met the former neighbours noted that it was impossible to convey in words their joy at returning to their hometown.
"It seems to me that now my parents are standing and looking at me. Thanks to the president and our army for the opportunity to return home," said one of the residents.
According to another Lachin resident, he was forced at the age of 27 to leave Lachin because of the Armenian occupation, and now, he is looking at the streets of the city, he remembers his youth, how he walked there on foot…
It should be noted that 55 families (213 people in total) of former internally displaced persons have already returned to Lachin.
Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijani State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Fuad Huseynov said earlier that the country plans to return to their native homes in the Karabakh and East Zangazur economic regions about 2,000 families of IDPs by late 2023, that is about 10,000 people.
"In addition, it is planned to return 267 families to the city of Fizuli and about 100 families to the village of Agali in Zangilan district," Huseynov added.
According to him, 700 families are planning to return to the city of Lachin, and 400 families to the villages of Zabukh and Sus in the Lachin district.
