Azerbaijan marks MOD special forces' 24th anniversary
An event dedicated to the 24th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry special-purpose forces [SPF] has been held in Baku.
Firstly, Lt-Gen Hikmat Mirzayev, the SPF commander and Hero of the Great Patriotic War, and a group of soldiers visited the graves of the Martyrs of the April battles and the Great Patriotic War and laid flowers at them, the Defence Ministry's press service told Caliber.Az.
The event, which continued at the Azerbaijani Army Training Centre, was attended by officers, warrant officers and reserve and retired special forces personnel. After the flag of victory in the Patriotic War was brought to the stage, a minute's silence was paid to the memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev and those who became martyrs for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijan’s national anthem was performed.
At the event, the personnel received a congratulatory message from Defence Minister Col-Gen Zakir Hasanov. The supreme commander-in-chief and the Defence Ministry leadership were thanked for the attention, care and trust shown to the SPF servicemen.
It was stressed that the SPF was ready to fulfil the task at the highest level in a short period of time.
