Azerbaijan, NATO eye expanding military cooperation during high-level visit PHOTO
Azerbaijani defence officials and a NATO delegation led by Major General Stefan Fix discussed enhanment of military cooperation, deepening experience exchange, and expanding joint projects under NATO’s partnership framework.
During the delegation's visit to Baku, Deputy Chief of Staff for Support at NATO’s Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) Major General Stefan Fix held a series of comprehensive meetings aimed at evaluating the current state of Azerbaijan-NATO relations and identifying new avenues for collaboration, Caliber.Az reports per Azerbaijani defence ministry’s statement.
Particular attention was given to Azerbaijan’s active participation in NATO’s partnership programs, with officials emphasising the country’s ongoing contributions and initiatives within the alliance’s frameworks.
In a session with the Azerbaijan Naval Forces, both delegations explored the potential for increasing operational collaboration and sharing best practices through joint training and military exchange programs.
The NATO delegation was given a detailed briefing at one of the Naval Forces' military units, where they were introduced to the unit’s operational structure and areas of activity. To showcase the capabilities and preparedness of Azerbaijani servicemen, the visitors observed a demonstration of tactical and special training exercises.
Furthering the agenda, the NATO officials visited the Military Police Department, where they were briefed on the unit’s formation, its current responsibilities and history. The delegation viewed a video outlining the department's development and structural overview.
At the final stage of the visit, the delegation held a meeting with representatives of the International Military Cooperation Department of Azerbaijan. The session featured a wide-ranging and constructive exchange on current cooperative initiatives and shared strategic interests. Both sides discussed the evolution of Azerbaijan-NATO military relations, ongoing projects within the partnership framework, and areas of mutual interest. Prospects for future cooperation were also discussed.
Throughout the visit, it was repeatedly emphasised that such high-level engagements serve as an important platform for reinforcing the strategic nature of Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation, as well as contribute to further strengthening the atmosphere of mutual understanding.
