Azerbaijan neutralises 1,796 mines, explosive devices in week VIDEO
The Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) has neutralised a total of 1,796 explosive devices during clearance operations carried out between September 22 and 28 across the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
According to ANAMA’s weekly report, extensive demining activities carried out in the Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khojavand, Lachin, Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Jabrayil, Gazakh, and Zangilan districts, as well as in the city of Khankendi, led to the detection and neutralisation of 100 anti-personnel mines, 35 anti-tank mines, and 1,661 unexploded ordnance, Caliber.Az reports.
These efforts have cleared a total of approximately 1,225.1 hectares of land, significantly reducing the threat posed by explosive hazards in the region.
Since the end of the 2020 conflict, landmines and unexploded ordnance have claimed or injured hundreds of lives, with ANAMA continuing its vital mission to clear contaminated areas. To date, the agency has cleared roughly 140,000 hectares of land, though large portions remain hazardous.
