Azerbaijan neutralises over 8,000 Armenian explosive ordnances in Karabakh

05 August 2024 16:04

The Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) has released its weekly report detailing demining operations conducted from July 22 to July 28 in territories liberated from occupation.

A total of 280 anti-personnel mines, 87 anti-tank mines, and 8,086 unexploded ordnances were discovered and safely neutralized across multiple regions including Tartar, Aghdam, Aghdara, Lachin, Fuzuli, Shusha, Khojaly, Khankandi, Kalbajar, Gubadli, Khojavand, Jabrayil, and Zangilan, ANAMA told Caliber.Az.

During this period, ANAMA successfully cleared 2,790.9 hectares of land, ensuring these areas are safe for civilian use and further development.

The demining operations are a collaborative effort involving ANAMA, the Defence Ministry, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the State Border Guard Service.

ANAMA's ongoing efforts reflect Azerbaijan's commitment to post-conflict reconstruction and humanitarian relief in the districts affected by the conflict. By systematically clearing landmines and unexploded ordnance, Azerbaijan aims to create safe conditions for displaced communities to return to their native lands.

The successful demining operations underscore the dedication and effectiveness of ANAMA and its partners in mitigating the hazards posed by explosive remnants of war and advancing the process of recovery and development in the liberated territories.

Following the liberation of Azerbaijani territories from Armenian occupation, reports indicate that Armenia deliberately planted land mines in these areas as a part of its military strategy. The land mines, intended to inflict harm on civilians and obstruct the return of displaced people, pose a significant threat to the safety and security of the region.
