Azerbaijan presents New Urban Agenda at UN General Assembly
Azerbaijan has presented its national report on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda at a high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, detailing its strategic framework for domestic city planning and regional post-conflict reconstruction.
The presentation was announced by Anar Guliyev, the Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan, in a statement published on the social media platform X.
In his post, Guliyev emphasised the significance of the address and outlined the core pillars of the state's urban planning agenda, writing:
"It was a great honour to address the opening session of the UN General Assembly high-level meeting and deliver Azerbaijan’s national statement.
The statement outlined five key priorities of Azerbaijan’s urban development policy: liveable and accessible environments, modern planning, digitalisation, climate resilience, and future-ready cities
It also highlighted an additional principle guiding the reconstruction of Garabagh and East Zangazur — Build Back Better. For us, this means not only rebuilding infrastructure but also laying the foundations for lasting peace and a high quality of life.
These priorities are already being translated into action. Updated master plans have been developed for more than 86% of the country’s cities, while the next important milestone is the preparation of Azerbaijan’s National Urban Policy in partnership with UN-Habitat."
