Azerbaijan’s State Roads Agency has overhauled a 10-kilometre stretch (km 103-113) of the Alat-Astara-Iran border highway passing through the Bilasuvar district.
New asphalt concrete cover was laid and necessary road signs were installed within the repair works, Caliber.Az report per the agency.
The width of the repaired road section is 15 metres.
In September 2018, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of the 204-km Alat-Astara-Iranian border highway, which is a part of the International North-South Transport Corridor passing through Azerbaijan.
In the past four years, rails were built from Astara to the state border, a railway bridge across the border river Astarachai, new terminals, and checkpoints at the border, including the region's largest grain terminal AstaraGrainTerminal with a throughput capacity of 500,000 tonnes of grain per year. As for the connection of railway lines in Iranian Astara with the Azerbaijani border Astara, these works are planned to be implemented in close coordination with Moscow, Tehran, and Baku.
