Azerbaijan rapidly building grandiose viaducts on Fuzuli-Shusha road PHOTO/VIDEO

15 July 2022 15:39

Construction of the new high-speed road Ahmadbayli-Fuzuli-Shusha, one of the road infrastructure projects in Karabakh, is rapidly progressing. The road will play an important role in the socio-economic development of areas liberated from years of Armenian occupation during the Patriotic War in the autumn of 2020.

Anar Najafli, head of the press service of the State Roads Agency of Azerbaijan, told Caliber.Az that the highway was laid on January 14, 2021, during President Ilham Aliyev's visit to the Fuzuli district.

The 81.6 km long high-speed road under construction, Ahmadbayli-Fuzuli-Shusha is six-lane for the most part, with three lanes in each direction (total width of 37.7 to 29.5 meters), and only in the highland part, it will be four-lane (total width - 21.5 meters).

Along the road, 7 tunnels (total length - 6358 meters), 9 viaducts (total length - 1980 meters) and 30 underpasses (total length - 1110 meters) are laid. The construction is carried out jointly by "Special Road Operation Company #16" of the State Roads Agency of Azerbaijan Republic and "Azvirt" LLC as a subcontractor.

Construction works are carried out under the direct supervision of the management of the State Roads Agency of Azerbaijan. The Ahmadbayli-Fuzuli-Shusha road begins from highway M6 Hajigabul-Goradiz-Aghband-Zangazur corridor and runs through the territories of Fuzuli, Khojavand, Khojaly, and Shusha regions liberated from the occupation.

At the moment, the construction of grandiose large-size bridges-viaducts going on at the 79.7 km of the route is based on the best international practices. In particular, the concrete floors (one 410 m long, the other 350 m long) are horizontally shifted and reinforced.

The construction of the road is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
