Azerbaijan ready for direct bilateral talks with Armenia to finalise peace treaty Foreign Ministry's statement
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has said that Azerbaijani is ready for direct bilateral talks with Armenia to finalise a peace treaty as soon as possible.
In a statement published on November 21, the ministry underlined that it took Armenia almost two and a half months to respond to Azerbaijan’s proposals on the draft peace agreement, which has seriously delayed the process, Caliber.Az reports.
This stagnation in the peace negotiations does not contribute to stability and prosperity in the region, it added.
“Azerbaijan stands prepared for direct negotiations with Armenia on a bilateral basis to finalise the peace agreement as soon as possible. We believe it is up to the two countries to decide together the future of their relations.
Responsibility for the continuation of the peace process, including the selection of a mutually acceptable venue, or a decision to meet at the state border, belongs to the two countries.
We encourage the Armenian side to avoid new unnecessary delays and hope it will positively respond to this call, so the negotiations will be resumed soon,” the statement reads.
Earlier, the Armenian Foreign Ministry that Armenia sent the sixth version of the draft peace agreement to Azerbaijan.
“Following up Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s public statement of November 18th to intensify diplomatic efforts to achieve signing of a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, the Armenian side submitted its 6th proposal of the Agreement to Azerbaijani side,” the Armenian foreign ministry wrote on X.
