Azerbaijan reports successful mine clearance efforts in liberated regions

The Mine Action Agency of the Azerbaijan Republic (ANAMA) has released its weekly report on demining operations conducted in the liberated Azerbaijani territories from October 7 to October 13.

During the reported period, 141 antipersonnel mines, 64 antitank mines, and 625 unexploded ordnance were revealed in Tartar, Aghdam, Aghdara, Lachin, Fuzuli, Shusha, Khojaly, Khankendi, Kalbajar, Gubadli, Khojavend, Jabrayil, and Zangilan, ANAMA told Caliber.Az.

A total of 1,198.7 hectares have been cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance.

Following the liberation of Azerbaijani territories from Armenian occupation, there are credible reports suggesting that Armenia has intentionally planted landmines in these regions as part of its military strategy. These land mines are reportedly aimed at causing harm to civilians and hindering the return of displaced individuals, thus posing a significant security risk to the area.

In response to this threat, a comprehensive demining initiative has been launched, involving collaborative efforts from various agencies, including the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the State Border Service. These organizations are working diligently to ensure the safety of the liberated territories, facilitating the safe return of civilians and enabling them to resume their normal lives.

The ongoing demining operations reflect Azerbaijan's dedication to post-conflict reconstruction and the provision of humanitarian assistance in the regions affected by the recent conflict.
