Azerbaijan sees slight increase in cargo volume through key transport corridors
In the first half of this year, Azerbaijan's transport corridors handled 16.41 million tons of cargo, with a cargo turnover of 6.63 billion ton-kilometers.
According to the State Statistics Committee, this marks an increase of 0.2% in cargo volume and 2.4% in turnover compared to the same period last year, Caliber.Az reports.
The East-West transport corridor saw 8.17 million tons of cargo, with 4.24 million tons moving along the Europe-Caucasus-Asia route, 4.81 million tons via the North-South corridor, 3.25 million tons through the North-West corridor, and 181,100 tons along the South-West corridor. Rail transport accounted for 7.51 million tons or 45.8% of the total cargo, road transport moved 5 million tons or 30.5%, and sea transport handled 3.9 million tons or 23.7%.
Transit cargo made up 9.71 million tons, representing 59.2% of the total cargo volume.
