Azerbaijan selects 12 mine victims for economic reintegration programme

26 May 2026 14:40

Twelve people injured by landmines have been selected as beneficiaries under a project aimed at supporting their economic reintegration, an Azerbaijani mine action NGO said.

Hafiz Safikhanov, chairman of the public association Azerbaijan Campaign Against Mines, said consultations were held with 52 residents affected by mine incidents across Fuzuli District, Aghdam District, Aghjabadi District, Tovuz District and Tartar District, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

He said all 12 selected beneficiaries are civilians injured in mine explosions. Among them are one woman, three relatives of those killed in the conflict, four individuals injured during demining activities, and one police officer. The group is aged between 20 and 64.

Safikhanov said the programme had also assisted in acquiring equipment to help beneficiaries resume economic activity. He added that 56 family members of mine victims are considered indirect beneficiaries of the initiative.

The project, funded with support from South Korea, aims to support the rehabilitation and social reintegration of mine victims and restore their ability to work, he said.
