Azerbaijan to construct new residential areas for former IDPs in Fuzuli

07 January 2025 15:00

The second phase of the construction project for new residential areas for former internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Fuzuli city is set to commence.

Demolition works will be conducted as part of the project to establish medium-density, mixed-use zones and mid-rise residential areas in the city, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.

The Rehabilitation, Construction, and Management Service in Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts has completed all necessary preparatory works for the project.

The execution of these works has been entrusted to Az Technocon Group Limited Liability Company (LLC).

Under the contract signed with the company, a payment of approximately 84,200 manats (around $49,500) has been made.

As a result of the brilliant victory of the Azerbaijani army in the second Karabakh war under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the former IDPs have an opportunity to return to their homeland voluntarily, safely and honourably after 30 years.

Proceeding from the decree signed in November 2022 by President Aliyev approving the "First State programme on the Great Return to Azerbaijan's liberated territories”, a total of 280,000 hectares (692,000 acres) of lands in the Karabakh and East Zangazur regions will be readied for resettlement by 2026.

By 2026, a total of 34,500 families will be relocated to the Karabakh and East Zangazur regions. To accommodate them, 34,500 apartments and private houses will be built by 2026.
