Azerbaijan to construct new residential complex for former IDPs in Aghdam

A new residential complex is set to be constructed in Aghdam city to accommodate former internally displaced persons (IDPs).

This development, part of the fifth phase of the broader settlement project, will consist of medium-rise, multifunctional buildings designed to enhance the living conditions of those who have been displaced, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The Restoration, Construction, and Management Service for Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts has successfully completed the preliminary stages of the project. These include vertical planning and the demolition of existing structures in preparation for the new development.

The responsibility for the initial works was assigned to RF İnşaat Limited Liability Company, which has since entered into a contractual agreement with the authorities. Under the terms of the contract, the company was allocated 265,1 thousand manats ($155,9).

This new complex will provide much-needed housing for former IDPs, contributing to the ongoing efforts to rebuild and rehabilitate areas affected by displacement.

As a result of the brilliant victory of the Azerbaijani army in the second Karabakh war, the former IDPs have an opportunity to return to their homeland voluntarily, safely and honourably after 30 years.

Proceeding from the decree signed in November 2022 by President Ilham Aliyev approving the "First State program on the Great Return to Azerbaijan's liberated territories”, a total of 280,000 hectares (692,000 acres) of lands in the Karabakh and East Zangazur regions will be readied for resettlement by 2026.

By 2026, a total of 34,500 families will be relocated to the Karabakh and East Zangazur regions. Some 34,500 apartments and private houses will be built by 2026 to accommodate them.
