Azerbaijan upgrades power grid in Khankendi, Aghdara PHOTO

Azerbaijan's state power utility AzərEnerji is modernising the 110/35/10-kilovolt Khankendi-2 substation in Khankendi and the 110/35/10-kilovolt Hasanriz substation in the Aghdara district using advanced digital technologies.

The agency said the reconstruction of the Khankendi-2 substation will provide more reliable, stable and higher-quality electricity supply to Khankendi, nearby settlements and key infrastructure facilities, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The Hasanriz substation, currently under construction in the Aghdara district, is expected to improve the reliability of electricity supply for consumers in the region, including industrial enterprises, and ensure the safe and uninterrupted transmission of electricity generated by the Sarsang Hydropower Plant and other hydropower stations in the area to Azerbaijan's national power grid.

According to AzərEnerji's head of public relations, Teymur Abdullayev, both substations will be equipped with local micro-SCADA dispatch control systems, enabling the remote operation of switching equipment and real-time transmission of operational data.

The systems will be integrated into AzərEnerji's central SCADA management platform.

In December 2025, AzərEnerji completed the full reconstruction of the Khankendi-1 substation and commissioned it as an enclosed-type facility.

Once the current projects are completed, the number of substations built by AzərEnerji in the liberated territories will reach 16. The company has also completed and commissioned 38 hydropower plants in the region, while construction is underway on another eight.
