President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has inaugurated the new administrative building of the State Customs Committee in the capital.
The 18-storey complex, spanning 25,000 square metres, features modern facilities and advanced technology to improve customs operations, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The building includes a central monitoring system for tracking cargo across Azerbaijan and ships in the Caspian Sea, along with real-time surveillance at border checkpoints. It is equipped with artificial intelligence for risk assessment and cybersecurity systems to prevent digital threats.
Designed and built entirely by Azerbaijani professionals, the facility also offers staff amenities such as a large green terrace, a café, and outdoor recreational spaces. Additional features include a conference hall, meeting rooms, a shooting range, and sports facilities.
During the visit, President Aliyev toured an on-site museum displaying historical artefacts seized by customs officials over the years, with items dating from ancient times to the mid-20th century.
The new headquarters reflects Azerbaijan’s efforts to modernise its customs infrastructure while supporting local expertise and sustainable design.
