Azerbaijani ruling party rep: Zangezur, Middle corridors to drive unification of Turkic states
Deputy Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party and Head of its central office Tahir Budagov has said that the implementation of the Zangezur Corridor and the development of the Middle Corridor will play a significant role in the unification of Turkic states.
"This is paving the way for a new multilateral cooperation platform and enhancing integration within the broader Turkic world," Budagov said at the “Victory of Foresight” event, dedicated to the "Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty", Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The deputy chairman also highlighted the importance of these projects in fostering closer ties among Turkic countries.
He also noted that Azerbaijan's membership in the Organisation for Economic Cooperation (D8), along with its continued partnership with influential organisations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and BRICS, is crucial in addressing the emerging geopolitical challenges.
“Today, the primary focus of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy is strengthening the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) by developing both bilateral and multilateral relations within the Turkic world,” he said. “Azerbaijan’s active initiatives are not only enhancing interstate relations within the Turkic world but are also creating new opportunities for the future.”
Budagov emphasised that these efforts, within the context of the evolving global order, will provide a solid foundation for achieving long-term geopolitical goals and contribute to increased geopolitical activity in Eurasia, particularly within the Turkic world.
The Middle Corridor, also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), is a major trade and transportation route that connects China to Europe through Central Asia, the Caspian Sea, and the Caucasus. This route aims to provide an alternative to the traditional routes that pass through Russia, facilitating the movement of goods between Asia and Europe. It is designed to enhance regional connectivity and reduce transportation time, offering a more efficient and secure pathway for international trade. The Middle Corridor plays a significant role in promoting economic cooperation among the countries along the route, including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Türkiye, and is seen as a key element in the broader Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) launched by China. The development of this corridor aims to boost trade, investment, and integration across Eurasia, contributing to the economic growth of the countries involved.
