Azerbaijanis in UK appeal to country's Parliament regarding Baroness Cox
The Azerbaijani community living in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland demands that a member of the House of Lords Caroline Anne Cox (Baroness Cox) be punished for her inflammatory Islamophobic thoughts.
In this regard, an appeal was sent on behalf of the chairman of the Azerbaijani Community of Britain Farida Panahova to the chairman of the Committee on Standards of the British Parliament Christopher John Bryant, the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora told Caliber.Az.
In an appeal, Baroness Cox's tweets were deemed as "deliberate incitement of hatred in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan" and the Azerbaijani community expressed deep concern about these tweets and news that impede the peace process: "It is regrettable that a member of the House of Lords is abusing religion and promoting Islamophobia to attract attention from far-right politicians.
"Given the serious implications of Baroness Cox's tweets, I ask the Standards Committee to investigate this matter thoroughly. Her actions violate the standards and principles set out by the House of Lords. In addition, I call on the committee to take appropriate action, including a reprimand and condemnation of Baroness Cox," the statement said.
In February, the facts obtained by the anti-racism campaign group Hope not Hate, based in the UK revealed that Equal and Free Limited, a not-for-profit company that is believed to have a link to Baroness Cox has received funding from an American organization run by two evangelical philanthropists.
The baroness received funding from an American organization run by evangelical philanthropists associated with orthodox Christian groups and campaigns against same-sex marriage. According to the documents, it is clear that she held regular meetings with well-known critics of Islam.
Trying to justify herself, Cox noted that the reason why she did not register the support received from the non-profit Equal and Free Limited company is that it simply passed by her attention and that the amount received was used to pay for her parliamentary research.
This is far from the first scandal around the Baroness. Of course, everyone in the UK has long known the pro-Armenian and Islamophobic views of the former nurse from the London Hospital. Working off the generous offerings of the Armenian diaspora, abroad, Cox constantly gets into all sorts of scandals, trying to do everything so that her colleagues in the House of Lords join her.
