Bahrain says it foiled missile and drone attacks launched from Iran
Bahrain’s air defence systems intercepted and destroyed multiple missiles and drones launched from Iranian territory, the kingdom’s Defence Force General Command said on July 8, amid escalating regional tensions.
“Air defence systems <...> intercepted and destroyed several Iranian aerial targets,” the command said in a statement, adding that all military units “are at the highest level of combat readiness to defend the kingdom.”
Authorities said the intended targets of the missile and drone attacks were civilians and private property, describing the strikes as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.
The developments follow a statement by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which said it had launched attacks on U.S. military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait in retaliation for recent U.S. strikes on Iranian territory.
Air raid sirens have been activated multiple times across Bahrain in response to the reported threats.
