Baku hosts 39th European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship

The 39th European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship kicks off in Baku on May 17.

Caliber.Az reports that the tournament will be held under the slogan "Shine like a star". The tournament will bring together 315 athletes (191 adults, 124 juniors) from 38 countries.

This will be the 5th European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship organised by Azerbaijan. Previously, Baku hosted continental championships in this sport in 2007, 2009, 2014 and 2019.

During the five-day championship, gymnasts will perform in the individual program (among adults) and in group teams (among juniors and adults).

Gymnasts will showcase their performances in all-around and individual events. The 18 adult group teams will compete with 5 hoops, 3 ribbons and 2 balls, and the 22 junior group teams will compete with 5 ropes and 5 balls.

Azerbaijan will be represented in the individual program by Zohra Agamirova and Ilona Zeynalova, as well as the team in group exercises among adults consisting of Gulli Agalarzade, Laman Alimuradova, Kamilla Aliyeva, Zeynab Gummetova, Elizaveta Luzan and Daria Sorokina.

Govkhar Ibragimova, Sakinakhanim Ismailzade, Madina Aslanova, Ilaha Bakhadyrova, Ayan Sadygova and Zahra Jafarova will take part in the competition of group teams among juniors.

The tournament will end on May 21st.

Fans will be captivated by exciting emotions. Gymnasts will enter the competition area along a Hollywood-style red carpet with appropriate decorations and lighting effects, trying to find their way to the hearts of the fans with their professional performances.

The most amusing character of the championship, of course, will be the mascot of European gymnastics - a monkey named Luigi. He will bring smiles, positive and good mood to the audience and gymnasts with his jokes and interesting programs.
