Baku: IDPs' return to Karabakh success not only for Azerbaijan, but whole Europe

14 July 2022 12:32

Azerbaijani MP Nigar Arpadarai has described the upcoming return of Azerbaijanis to Zangilan District liberated from Armenian occupation in 2020 as a success for not only Azerbaijan but the whole of Europe.

She made the remarks on her Twitter page.

"The return to Karabakh begins! 41 families will be relocated to Aghali village in liberated Zangilan, Azerbaijan on July 19. Sadly, not always refugees, IDPs, and forced migrants get a chance to return to their homelands, so this return is a success story not only for Azerbaijan but the whole of Europe," she said.

Meanwhile, another MP Vugar Bayramov tweeted that "the Great Return will start in Azerbaijan on July 19. Residents of Aghali village of Zangilan District, who have been living as İDPs for 30 years, are returning to their homes... 41 IDP families will turn on their lights in their own homes. This time forever".

Zangilan's Aghali village was the first one where the "smart city" concept - which has long been on the agenda in Azerbaijan - will be implemented.

Azerbaijan presented the first pilot project of a "smart village" in the liberated territories, as part of the 2020-2022 National Action Plan, in Zangilan District's Aghali village. Thus, the first project covers Zangilan's Aghali I, II, III villages. The project is based mainly on five components - housing sector, production sector, social services, smart agriculture and alternative energy.

As part of the project, initially, 200 individual houses were constructed with the use of innovative building materials. In addition, engineering communications and heating systems in the houses were created on the basis of smart technologies.

Moreover, modern schools, kindergartens, clinics and electronic control centres will be built in these villages, and tourism infrastructure will be formed. All residential houses, social facilities, administrative and catering buildings, and processing and production of agricultural products will be provided with alternative energy sources.
