Belarus leader congratulates Türkiye on 101st Republic Day, gears up for Ankara visit

29 October 2024 10:42

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has sent congratulations to his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the occasion of the bank holiday - Republic Day, according to Lukashenko’s press service.

“Over the years of independence, your country has undoubtedly achieved significant successes in all spheres of state building. Modern Türkiye is confidently moving along the path of progress and modernisation, plays an important role in maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world,” the congratulatory message reads, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Reflecting on recent diplomatic engagements, Lukashenko expressed appreciation for his productive meeting with Erdogan in Astana in July, describing it as “meaningful.”

In his message, Lukashenko also conveyed his readiness to advance bilateral relations further and gratefully accepted Erdogan’s invitation for an official visit to Türkiye, underscoring the two nations’ commitment to continued cooperation and strengthened diplomatic ties.

Today, on October 29, Türkiye marks the 101st anniversary of the establishment of the Republic. It commemorates the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye on October 29, 1923, under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. This day marks the end of the Ottoman Empire and the birth of a modern, secular nation.

On this day, Turkish people honour Atatürk's legacy and celebrate national pride and unity. Schools and government institutions often hold special events, while Turkish flags and images of Atatürk decorate streets and buildings.
