Belgium to deliver two F-16 jets to Ukraine this year, more on way in 2025
Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever has announced that Belgium will deliver two F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine this year, with another two to follow in 2025.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, De Wever assured that the deliveries would proceed without any delays, Caliber.Az reports per Ukrainian media.
De Wever emphasised Belgium’s strong commitment to being the largest supplier of F-16s to Ukraine. He confirmed that two F-16s designated for spare parts would be sent this year, while two operational jets would be delivered in 2025.
He expressed optimism that additional F-16s could be dispatched once Belgium takes delivery of its new fleet of F-35 fighter jets, reiterating that there would be no delays on Belgium’s part.
“Once the F-35s arrive, Belgium will be able to immediately transfer additional F-16s to Ukraine,” De Wever stated, reaffirming his country’s dedication to meeting its promises to Ukraine.
The decision follows the establishment of an aviation coalition in 2023, which aims to supply Ukraine with F-16s. President Zelenskyy has previously indicated that Ukraine needs at least 128 F-16s to bolster its air capabilities. The first batch of these aircraft was delivered by the Netherlands and Denmark in 2024.
In addition to the four F-16s already scheduled for delivery, Belgium has committed to supplying a total of 30 fighter jets to Ukraine by the end of 2028. Recent reports also indicate that Ukraine is set to receive additional F-16s from its partners, with preparations for further deliveries already underway.
