Biden: US to work on training Ukrainian pilots on the F-16
The United States, together with partners, will work on training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets.
The training will take place in Europe, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to a statement by US President Joe Biden during a speech at the Air Force Academy in Colorado.
The American leader recalled a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the G7 summit in Hiroshima.
“Just a few weeks ago, I was with President Zelenskyy in Hiroshima for the G7. I told him that we will work with our partners to start training Ukrainian pilots in Europe on fourth-generation fighters, including the F-16,” Biden said.
At the same time, the president also noted that the United States and a coalition of 50 countries are working to provide Ukraine with "historic assistance." According to him, this will help Ukrainians "to protect themselves today and in the future."
In addition, Biden, in his address to academy graduates, said that they are joining the ranks of the US Air Force at an unstable time when Russia and China are challenging the world order. He added that allied relations with many countries make the US more stable.
“And do not think that our opponents do not understand this. That's why they're working so hard to try and split us up," Biden said.
To recap, several European countries, Canada and the United States have expressed their desire to train Ukrainian pilots on modern F-16 fighters. The US President at the G7 summit in Japan confirmed Washington's intention to join this initiative.
