Bild: Suspicious drones flying over landfills in Germany
Suspicious drones from week to week fly over barracks and training grounds in Germany.
The drones fly where the Ukrainian military is being trained, but the Federal Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) cannot find an effective means of countering them, although Bundeswehr has known about the problem for more than a year, according to Bild.
General Carsten Breuer, who later became Inspector General (Commander) of the German Armed Forces, was astonished at the scale of the problem in October 2022 and ordered military police to be trained to use the HP47 mobile electronic warfare device to combat drones.
“Frankly speaking, the effectiveness of the HP47 jammer has not been sufficiently explored,” Bild experts note.
After Breuer became inspector general, nothing has changed, the newspaper noted.
“Drones are constantly spotted over the Klitz military training ground, where the Bundeswehr trains Ukrainians to use Leopard 1 tanks. Several drones sometimes invade the airspace above other bases at the same time. This has been organised,” Free Democratic Party defence expert Markus Faber said in an interview with Bild.
So far, the German military has not managed to catch a single spotted drone or detain the person operating it.
