Bloomberg: Lawmakers urge Trump to “finish job” in Iran
Some US senators are urging President Donald Trump to continue military action in Iran, with one of them urging the administration to “finish the job” to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Republican Senator Roger Marshall argued that resuming the conflict is justified even amid mounting difficulties for American farmers caused by rising fuel costs, Bloomberg reports.
Democratic Senator Tina Smith expressed the opposite view, warning that the conflict in the Middle East is creating “massive economic uncertainty” for voters.
On April 16, the US Senate failed to pass a resolution that could have barred President Donald Trump from ordering new strikes against Iran.
After the ceasefire between the two countries expired, the White House made it clear that no timeline had been set for its extension.
However, with Iran insisting it will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the two sides appear to have reached a stalemate.
US President Donald Trump is said to be satisfied with the situation and continues to insist the US is in control.
