Bloomberg: Pakistan seeks urgent LNG cargoes amid heatwave, supply disruption
Pakistan is urgently seeking liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes for May delivery as extreme heat increases pressure on its electricity system, while regional disruptions in the Persian Gulf are affecting supply flows, Bloomberg reported on May 6.
According to the report, the state-owned company Pakistan LNG Ltd. has launched a tender for LNG deliveries scheduled between May 12–14 and May 24–26.
The move comes as the country faces heightened energy demand driven by unusually hot weather conditions, straining power generation capacity.
Bloomberg also noted that Pakistan purchased a spot market LNG cargo last month for the first time in more than two years, amid disruptions to supply chains linked to instability in Iran. The Persian Gulf region is a key global LNG hub, accounting for roughly one-fifth of worldwide production.
