Canadian PM says Erdoğan's revolvers overshadowed maple syrup gift
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney remarked that his gift of maple syrup at the NATO summit appeared less original compared to the revolvers presented by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
According to Bloomberg, Carney commented while referring to Erdoğan's gifts to alliance leaders during the summit.
"It struck me that my gift of maple syrup kind of undermatched," the Canadian prime minister said.
The gifts reportedly took several leaders by surprise as they prepared to leave the Turkish capital, resulting in what appeared to be an unintended case of weapons smuggling.
The Turkish-made Gumusay .357 Magnum revolvers were engraved with the names of each recipient and were accompanied by six live rounds as well as export documentation authorising their departure from Türkiye.
