Cement tanker crash kills six in Iraq’s Kirkuk, mourning declared
A serious road accident in the Darwaza district in northern Kirkuk, Iraq, has left six people dead and 27 injured, bringing the total number of victims to 33.
According to the officials, the crash was caused by a cement tanker driver losing control of the vehicle due to excessive speed, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iraqi media.
Eyewitnesses told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the truck was moving at high speed along a busy street near the Cultural Centre when the driver lost control. The vehicle then collided with several cars, causing widespread damage and panic among pedestrians.
In total, 24 vehicles were damaged in the incident. Emergency teams extinguished fires that broke out in several cars and evacuated people who were trapped inside vehicles after the impact.
In response to the tragedy, the Kirkuk provincial council declared April 27 a day of mourning.
