Central Asian states hold first talks on Kambarata HPP-1
Delegations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have held the first round of negotiations in Bishkek on a draft intergovernmental agreement for the implementation of the Kambarata Hydropower Plant-1 project, according to inbusiness.kz, citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy.
“The Kambarata HPP-1 project is a strategically important regional initiative in the energy sector. It is aimed at strengthening the energy security of Central Asian states and provides for the construction of a hydropower plant with an installed capacity of 1,880 MW on the Naryn River in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic,” the statement said.
The delegations included representatives of relevant government agencies and specialized organizations from all three countries. Following the talks, the parties confirmed their intention to continue joint work to finalise the provisions of the draft intergovernmental agreement.
The next round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in April 2026 in Tashkent.
