ChatGPT turns over ex-Goldman Sachs analyst’s murder threats to FBI
OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot alerted the FBI to messages from former Goldman Sachs financial analyst Darren Zhou in which he discussed plans to attack his ex-girlfriend, The Post Millennial reports.
According to the publication, 25-year-old Zhou told the chatbot that he intended to kill his former girlfriend within a month. After detecting direct threats, the system passed the information to the FBI, which forwarded the material to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.
The woman confirmed that she had been stalked and provided law enforcement with screenshots of the threatening messages. Following Zhou’s arrest, Goldman Sachs fired the analyst.
He was charged with aggravated stalking, written threats to kill and unlawful use of a communications device.
As part of the legal proceedings, Zhou reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. The court sentenced him to probation, mandatory electronic monitoring and participation in a rehabilitation program for domestic violence offenders.
