Chechen leader refuses to back Iran militarily in conflict with US and Israel
Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has refused to provide military support to Iran in its conflict with the United States and Israel.
He announced his position in a Telegram post, stating he was not prepared to assist Tehran under the current circumstances, Caliber.Az reports.
According to Kadyrov, he would have been willing to deploy Chechen troops to Iran if the country had not carried out strikes against civilians in neighbouring Arab states.
“They are also attacking our brothers. It is deeply unpleasant for me to see how civilians in third countries become innocent victims of the conflict,” he explained.
At the same time, Kadyrov stressed that if Iran were not attacking its neighbours, the deployment of Chechen units to help repel a potential US strike “could very well have happened.”
He did not specify which units he would be prepared to send or under what legal framework within Russia such a deployment could take place.
