Chief: OSCE monitoring peace process between Armenia, Azerbaijan
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is closely monitoring the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and stands ready to provide necessary support.
Acting OSCE Secretary General, Kate Firon, made the statement, expressing the organization's commitment to assisting both countries in their efforts towards peace, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
"We are closely following the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and are prepared to contribute if requested by the parties involved," Firon said.
Notably, the 31st Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has officially commenced today, December 5, in Valletta, Malta. The council brings together foreign ministers and high-level officials from the 57 OSCE participating states, convened to assess and address security challenges in the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian regions.
Malta, which assumed the OSCE Chairmanship for 2024, is hosting this crucial event, under the leadership of Ian Borg, Malta's Minister for Foreign Affairs. This year’s Ministerial Council will focus on reviewing the organization’s activities and evaluating the evolving security situation across its areas of engagement.
US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken is attending the event, where he will join counterparts in discussing the pressing security concerns facing the region. Secretary Blinken is expected to underline the central role of the OSCE in advancing comprehensive security, while also expressing appreciation for Malta's leadership during this period.
