China to provide humanitarian aid to four Middle Eastern countries
China announced on March 17 that it will send humanitarian assistance to four Middle Eastern countries—Iran, Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq—affected by the consequences of the war initiated by the United States and Israel, according to French media.
“The war has caused a serious humanitarian catastrophe for the people of Iran and other countries in the region. China expresses sympathy and extends its condolences to the populations of the relevant countries,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said.
China’s decision fits into a broader pattern of growing humanitarian and diplomatic engagement in the Middle East, where Beijing has increasingly positioned itself as a non-military actor focused on aid, mediation, and economic ties rather than direct intervention.
The current aid pledge also reflects a rapidly worsening humanitarian situation across the region, with international organisations warning that millions are affected by displacement, damaged infrastructure, and limited access to basic services due to ongoing conflict.
Aid agencies say the war risks overwhelming relief systems and disrupting global supply chains, making external assistance increasingly critical.
