Clashes erupt between Taliban, Pakistani military over border dispute
Armed clashes erupted between Taliban forces and the Pakistani military along the disputed border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, according to a statement from Taliban Defence Ministry spokesman Inayatullah Kharazmi.
The confrontation began when Pakistani soldiers opened fire on Taliban forces constructing a border post in Khost province, Afghanistan, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Kharazmi reported that the Pakistani military's initial gunfire targeted Taliban-formed border forces, prompting a return of fire from the Taliban. The clashes involved both light and heavy weaponry, as reported by TOLOnews TV channel. The conflict was sparked by the Afghan side’s construction of outposts near the contested border area.
The TV channel later confirmed that the fighting had subsided, with no casualties or injuries reported from either side. The situation highlights ongoing tensions over the border dispute, which continues to be a flashpoint between the two nations.
